Becker Büttner Held – a company of the BBH group – is Germany’s leading firm on energy and infrastructure law. Our core practice areas in the Brussels office include European energy and climate law, environmental law, competition and State aid law , international law, dispute resolution as well as policy consultancy services at EU level.

In this capacity, we provide legal advice to EU and international institutions, governments and companies with a focus on energy and climate issues. This includes the participation in tenders, public affairs, communication and project development.

EU Law Intern in Brüssel

EU Law Intern / BBH Team Brussels

To increase resources at the Brussels office, we are seeking a highly qualified and motivated candidate who will join our team for a six-month paid internship. The successful candidate will support our work in advising clients and preparing documentations with the overall objective to support the energy and climate transition in Europe, its Member States and beyond.

Main tasks include:

  • Legal advice provided to clients
  • Management and implementation of projectsManagement and implementation of projects
  • Preparation of applications for tenders and funding programmes
  • Research and background policy briefs
  • Monitoring EU energy and climate policy initiatives and adaptation and implementation at Member State level
  • Input to publications such as reports and studies
  • Organisation and preparation of meetings and events both online and in live formats, including presentations, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Attending and reporting from official events (EP committee meetings, Commission conferences, hearings and workshops)
  • Screening of EU and national funding opportunities, as well as the contributing to tenders and project proposals
  • Communication activities and campaigns, especially via social media channels such as X and LinkedIn

Requirements

  • EU national or work permit holder as the internship is in Brussels, Belgium
  • A bachelor’s or master's degree in European and/or international law
  • A good understanding of EU policy-making processes and EU energy policies will be an asset
  • Very strong English written and verbal communication skills
  • Good communication skills in German (spoken and written) are considered as advantage
  • Strong research abilities, analytical skills and writing skills, including the ability to summarise issues quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work in a team, whilst at the same time carrying out own tasks independently and to agreed deadlines
  • Previous experience/internship in one of the European institutions is considered as additional advantage
